Cliff Jump at Mt Martha Pillars

About Mt Martha Pillars
Step into a slice of European style paradise at the Mt Martha Pillars. It’s hard to believe that such a treasure is hidden just along Mt Martha’s Esplanade. It’s beautiful crystal clear water, pebble beach and sandstone cliffs make it the perfect summer escape. So, kickback, absorb some vitamin D, take in the views and maybe even enjoy a nice picnic. The Pillars is also well known for its cliff jumping. You can watch the thrill seekers cliff jump or muster up the courage and take the plunge yourself. If you are brave enough to do so (or cheat and climb down) you can enjoy a swim whilst exploring its small caves, rocks and tiny marine life. Despite news reports, there are no fences stopping people accessing The Pillars. Locals & environmental groups remain concerned about the negative impacts of over-visitation. Unfortunately plastic, alcohol bottles and cigarette butts litter the cliffs over Summer; it’s a real shame. Be responsible and respectful, it’s really easy. Take all of your waste home, avoid parking where it will disrupt locals, let nature prevail and pass on this message.

My Adventure at Mt Martha Pillars: @claudiativendale
“I am certainly a repeat offender of the Pillars. When the weather is looking good, I grab some mates and off we go. Carrying a beach bag, camera bag and the food, it is always a struggle when climbing down. However, once we reach the bottom it’s all thumbs up from there. We lay our towels out, whip out the food and enjoy the view. Jumping from the cliff is a good way to get the heart racing and cool down from the heat. Sometimes I successfully convince my friends to jump with me… but only sometimes. It’s easy to lose hours at Mt Martha Pillars. Jumping from the cliffs, bathing in the crystal clear water and then a climb back to the towels, the cycle continues all day long.”
Getting to Mt Martha Pillars
  1. Travel to Marguerita Avenue, Mount Martha.
  2. Parking is very limited. It is advised you park in streets further back from the beach and walk towards the Esplanade.
  3. Walk beach side towards Deakin Drive (The pillars are in between Marguerita Avenue and Deakin Drive).
  4. There are no signs for the pillars, so look for a small track that looks well used.
  5. Follow it and start your decent down.
Best Conditions
Summer. Week day; because it is less crowded.
Difficulty
Moderate. Steep and slippery accent and decent to cliff top.
